Special Needs...Autism & Asperger's

What if your life was marked by confusion?  Your mind would not process information like a "normal" person's mind does.  What if you were constantly bombarded with too much information and too many images?

This is what it can be like for a person that has been diagnosed with an Autistic disorder or with Asperger's.   Autism and Asperger's are categorized as pervasive developmental disorders according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.  Individuals diagnosed with a pervasive developmental disorder have many things to overcome and several hurdles to jump through to understand others and to be understood by others.  If you ever wondered why an individual diagnosed with Autism may hit themselves or hum or why an individual diagnosed with Asperger's may act childish but seem "normal" in other aspects let Alex Olinkalex and Carly Feishmann tell you why.
