One Thousand Gifts

We all have pain.

What if you could be thankful despite the most painful life circumstances you have ever experienced?

Better yet … What if you could be thankful because of the most painful life circumstances you have ever experienced?

Best case scenario … What if you could be thankful in the midst of the most painful life circumstances you have ever experienced?

Sound impossible? Quite simply – it’s not. I have learned that pain is a gift. It would have been a gift for those suffering with leprosy. Without the warning signal of pain, their bodies were subjected to daily abuse they knew nothing about – abuse that usually rendered these individuals crippled for life. Emotional and spiritual pain work the same way. They are indicators of deeper wounds. If you can get to the heart of the pain – and learn how to thank God for it – you may just find yourself living a life filled with joy.

Think about it. Rather than clenching your fists in anger towards God during the most trying struggles of your life, what if you ran to Him and fell on your knees in thanksgiving and accepted all the grace, all the gifts He has given you? Your life would be different. It works. I know …

Ann Voskamp’s best-selling book “One Thousand Gifts” is ultimately a challenge to her readers to find God’s grace in every aspect of their lives – in every moment of their life- and in return, give Him thanks for those gifts … even if they come in the form of pain. She teaches how we can find joy, regardless of our circumstances.

Now, Meck is offering a bible study based on this amazing book. Our hope is that throughout the “One Thousand Gifts” study you learn how to live out the secrets of a joyful heart. It could be just the step you need to unclench your fists and “live fully right where you are.”

* Reading the book is not a prerequisite to participation in this Bible study however it is recommended.
*This blog was written by our current "One Thousand Gifts" group leader.  To learn about the schedule of this group please look at the upcoming events page!
