God, Please Block Me!

A few weeks ago I was serving during one of our Sunday services at the North Charlotte campus. I was greeting people and as I did my attention was captivated by a little girl and her father. This toddler was very persistent in her intent to walk in the auditorium and her father kept blocking her path. This father pulled her from behind and he got in front of her and with his hand stopped her. Lastly he picked her up, put her in his arms and carried her in the auditorium so she could see the band. After this he took her out and carried her to the toddler’s classroom.

The father that I was watching did not want the child to enter into the auditorium alone because it was dark and she might have been hurt walking without her father’s guidance. Her father was also very patient with her, blocked her numerous times and eventually let her see what she wanted to see from the safety of his arms. This father then put her in the place where she would receive the care, the attention, have fun, and receive teaching that was specifically designed for her.

This morning while I was praying this image came to my mind and I started to pray specifically for God to block me, to pull me from behind, to get in front of me and block me with His hand or if needed to pick me up and put me somewhere else. Prayer serves so many wonderful functions. It allows as I did this morning, to speak to the one that protects, guides, leads, heals, blesses, corrects, and loves you. We have the opportunity to take our questions, our burdens, our praises to one that will always be there. We not only have the opportunity to take our own questions, burdens, and praises before God but we can take other individuals’ needs as well. Prayer is key to our relationship with God.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)
