“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” - Matthew 11: 28 – 30 NIV
Come as I am? I need to wait. I need to wait until I am “perfect”. I will come when all my bad habits are broken, my hang-ups took care of, and I am no longer fighting compulsions or addictions. That is when I will turn to God. I cannot do it right now. I would not be able to “live the life” it would take to turn to God. I will figure this out on my own.
This is a common way of thought that we can all at times catch ourselves contemplating. We either reject God all together or we try to figure out how to “fix” our problems alone for awhile before asking God to step into the process with us. Yet Christ asked that YOU come as YOU are right now.
Celebrate Recovery is an ongoing support group for individuals and their families that are healing from hurts, habits, hang-ups, compulsions and addictions. This is a group that is dedicated to helping people come as they are, right now, and to bring those habits, hang-ups, compulsions and addictions to God. To follow God’s path to healing that we find in God’s word.
So how did Celebrate Recovery start? A man came as he was to God and received healing. The man, who was weary and burdened, gave these burdens to God and fully received the promise found in Matthew 11: 28 – 30. This man was Pastor John Baker and you can read about his own journey here.
Join the Celebrate Recovery group on Thursday nights at the North Charlotte Campus of Mecklenburg Community Church from 7 – 8:30 pm in room 112. You can read more about the group here.
